Château Paloumey

Paloumey comes from a Gascon word referring to the wood pigeon, which is a migratory bird named palombe that flies from the south of France and over Bordeaux in autumn before reaching the warm lands of Spain. Apart from its historical name, the estate has always held a high reputation in the wine world. Originally owned by a wine merchant, Octave Dupuy during the 19th century, Paloumey was ranked among the great Cru Bourgeois in 1868. While darker years of war and phylloxera hit in the 1950s, Paloumey was restored with the help of its new owner, Martine Cazeneuve in 1989. As there were no more vines or cellars or vinification rooms, Martine spent many years rebuilding the estate. All of her work paid off because in 2003, Paloumey was classified as a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur.
