Mommessin

Inherited from the Cluny monks who had cleared the land and planted vines on their properties around Mâcon, the House of Mommessin originates from southern Burgundy. In 1865, Jean-Marie Mommessin chose to set up his négociant company in Grange-Saint-Pierre, one of the former outbuildings of the Cluny Abbey. It was from there that the key, which has become the symbol of the brand, was taken. In 1932, they purchased the famous Clos de Tart vineyard in Morey-Saint-Denis, enabling them to go to the very heart of Burgundy before transferring its headquarters to Quincié-en-Beaujolais. In the early 2000s, the Mommessin family sold off their négociant side of the business, as well as their name brand to Jean-Claude Boisset while retaining Clos de Tart. Today, the Mommessin brand produces a variety of wines from all over France including the Maconnais, Beaujolais and the south of France.
